COVID UPDATE
Hello Lowcountry Splashers…hope everyone is faring well during this pandemic and the trying times we all are facing. GOOD NEWS…we are moving ahead with our plans to have the 19th annual Lowcountry Splash on Saturday September 26th. We are so excited to be able to put on the Splash! Of course…we are going to have to take many measures that will change much of how this years’ Splash will be conducted. We will highlight some specifics for you and hope you find what we have in store for you is going to still be really COOL!!
Check out our VIRTUAL swim, if you don’t plan on making the actual open water swim, as well as our COMBINED LOWCOUNTRY SPLASH and UPSTATE SPLASH event. Please see below UNDER our regular Splash Plans where we have the virtual combined event explained.
SPLASH PLANS
1) We are going to limit participation: We will have the 2 separate races as follows:
· 6 mile: Limited to 100 participants
· 2.4 mile: Limited to 250 participants
2) We will abide by CDC guidelines for social distancing:
· All participants in the open water splash will be required to sign a SEPARATE WAIVER of liability for COVID 19. We want to be completely transparent that we will do everything to provide as safe of an atmosphere as possible but also knowing that COVID 19 has proven potential rapid transmission. For this reason, we must require this signed waiver or you will not be able to swim.
· There will be no post-race awards celebration (we will have fruit/drinks for you at the finish.
· Packet pick up will be altered to assure social distancing
· Local participants will be STRONGLY encouraged to be dropped off at the start point of each race.
· Out of town participants will ride on the buses from Patriots to the respective start sites with social distancing (ie…bus holds 64 people…there will be 22 people on bus)
3) We will provide masks for the pre- and post-race.
4) The start of the 2.4 and 6 mile race will have each participant go across a timing pad as they enter the water (no mass start on the 2.4 or wave start on the 6 mile). Each swimmer will go 5 seconds apart and once going across the timing pad their chip will be activated.
5) We have a new timing system this year that will allow us to maintain social distancing. All results from the open water swim will be available on your smart phone immediately following the race.
6) All awards will be as before with top 3 overall male and female and 1st place awards in each age group male and female. The awards will be mailed to the swimmers as we will not have the post-race awards ceremony this year.
7) All participants are required to sign the COVID waiver upon registration. If you have already registered we will send you a reminder to sign the waiver.
